A survey conducted by US-based cybersecurity firm Rubrik revealed that a significant number of Indian companies experienced data breaches in 2023, leading to the loss of sensitive information. The survey, which included IT and security leaders from various Indian organizations, highlighted the prevalence of malicious cyber activity targeting Software as a Service (SaaS) platforms.
Key findings from the survey include:
- 69% of Indian IT and security leaders reported SaaS as the most vulnerable to malicious cyber activity in 2023.
- 98% of Indian IT and security leaders admitted to experiencing loss of sensitive information during the same period.
- Approximately 55% of Indian companies paid ransoms due to data extortion threats.
The report, based on research conducted by Rubrik Zero Labs, combined data from over 6,100 organizations worldwide, along with insights from a survey conducted by Wakefield Research comprising more than 1,600 IT and security decision-makers at large companies.
The study also integrated data from Rubrik partner organizations and five additional research entities to provide comprehensive findings. Conducted across various countries including the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Japan, Australia, Singapore, and India, the research period spanned from January 18 to January 30, 2024.
Specific insights highlighted in the report include:
- Healthcare organizations experienced 50% more encryption events than the global average in 2023.
- Cloud adoption continues to pose inherent risks and security blind spots, with 70% of all data typically unreadable by security appliances.
Abhilash Purushothaman, Vice President & General Manager, Asia at Rubrik, emphasized the urgent need for collaboration among government, industry, and stakeholders to bolster cyber resilience in Asia, particularly in critical sectors like healthcare. With escalating cyber threats, safeguarding sensitive data remains a paramount concern for organizations across the region.
